Neap Tide & Other Stories is a collection of 20 short stories by award winning Kerry writer, Neil Brosnan. These stories delve beneath the veneer of Irish society – good and bad, urban and rural, past and present.

The First Edition of Neap Tide & Other Stories is printed and bound in Cork, and limited to a run of 50 copies, all of which are hand signed and numbered by the author. As 10 copies of this edition have been deposited at various public institutions, only 40 have been allocated for general sale.

The holder of All-Ireland and World Fleadh Cheoil medals for songwriting, Listowel’s Neil Brosnan has been writing short stories for over a decade. Since winning the Bryan MacMahon Short Story Award in 2004, he has had over 40 stories published in a variety of magazines and anthologies in Ireland and the UK. In 2010, he published his first collection of works, Fresh Water & Other Stories. Neil’s stories are set in a changing Ireland, and focus on extraordinary events in the mundane lives of ordinary, everyday people.

Neil Brosnan cares about writing. His love of his work shows in the careful way he places and chooses his words. Neap Tide & Other Stories is a joy and a testament to the unassailable fact: there is no substitute for craft. Yes, Neil Brosnan has mastered his craft. His stories are timeless. His stories are universal. Many are set in small places, but like Seamus Heaney, there is a sense of the communal and the eclectic.
– Billy Keane, journalist & author

Neil has a keen sense of observation and he manages to probe beneath the surface of apparently mundane events to reveal what is really going on.
– Phil Murphy, Editor, Ireland’s Own

These are vivid and evocative stories that capture people in all stages of life, from childhood and youth to old age. Sadness and joy are at home on these pages. From the start of each story, the reader is drawn in immediately and is quickly immersed in a new world. This is testament to the skill of the author, and especially his ear for dialogue and attention to detail which makes this such a special collection.
– Jimmy Deenihan T.D., Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht
